Streetlight Adoption Program
You are no doubt aware the city of Colorado Springs
is cutting services in response to budget shortfalls.
Parks and median strips will not be watered and are
allowed to go to weed, swimming pools and community
centers have been closed, fire fighters have been laid
off, burglary investigations have been slashed, roads
will not be maintained, and more
than a third of the street lights have been shut off.
Before you call the city to report the street light as
burned out, look for an orange band around the pole.
If the band is there, it means the light is dark on
purpose and the city will not turn it back on.
The city has initiated a program that will allow you
to pay to have that streetlight turned on.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, "a year of
service is $75 for a residential light." The fee
"may" be tax deductible, but you should check with your
tax specialist.
To adopt a streetlight, see the city web site at
www.springsgov.com.
