Project Updates For Hunters Point HOA

Update on Renovations 8/1/2011

The new tennis court surface (Flex Court) is installed. We are receiving mostly positive feedback regarding the appearance and play. It takes approximately 3 months for the tiles to "settle-in" which will result in improved ball bounce consistency. After 3 months, final decisions can be made as to the perimeter finish out with the remaining tiles / ramp edge.

We continue to have problems with the gate being left unlocked, in addition to minor vandalism at the park. Recently the "no trespassing" sign was forced out of the ground, the gate forced open, and the sign left leaning on the new net / flex court surface. This is in addition to permanent ink graffiti on the steps to the court.

As a reminder, please leave the gate secured at all times. Additionally, a chain has been installed on the gate to use with the current lock to discourage it from being forced open.

Parents need to be mindful of, and responsible for the activities and actions of their children at the park.

The tennis court is solely for participation in net sports.

A reservation board is in place during the summer months.

Tennis Court Renovations - Todd Campbell - Projects Engineer HPHOA

I wanted to provide our homeowners with a brief summary on the status of our tennis court. Because of the previous unsuccessful attempts at crack repair, I was able to convince the resurfacing company to provide us with a full repair and resurface for the previously agreed upon price of a crack repair. Unfortunately, the cracks are already re-appearing, confirming the need to come up with a more durable and cost effective solution.

The board approved moving forward with purchase and installation of Flex Court following a positive response to this product at the annual meeting. The tentative plan is to install the new posts and net on Monday, June 20th. The court will be closed for approximately 1 week to allow the concrete to cure. The Flex Court tiles have been ordered, and should be installed in approximately 3 weeks. The installation of tiles takes one day, and play can be resumed immediately after installation. Our court will then be available for a variety of net sports. The outer row of tiles and ramp edging will be installed after a few months to allow the court to "settle in", as some contraction and expansion is expected initially.

Advantages of Flex Court:

  • ALL-WEATHER COURT - Designed with complete expansion and contraction tolerances to fit every climate condition.
  • SHOCK ABSORPTION - ¾” thick shock absorbing co-polymer surface (Easier on the joints, fewer injuries)
  • FAST INSTALLATION - Installs quickly over existing or new surface (One day or less per court).
  • REDUCED MAINTENANCE - Covers existing or developing cracked and chipped surfaces with no resurfacing or painting (Saves $1,000 - $8,000 per year).
  • IMPROVED GAME PERFORMANCE - Medium ball speed, better ball bounce, no skid on lines.
  • SELF DRAINING – Fast drying, no standing water, play in minutes after rain.
  • REDUCED HEAT - Lower surface temperatures (Cooler than asphalt and concrete courts).
  • 15 YEAR WARRANTY - 25 to 30 year life expectancy (Highest performance-to-price ratio in the market).
  • MULTIPURPOSE POSTS AND NET SYSTEM - (Expands use of the court to include many net sports including volleyball, badminton, etc.).

Thanks for your patience and continued support,

Todd
